I like the beginning of the story-the hook was well-written, and the transition throughout the story was rather touching. This book, I promise, will make you wanting to read more, and to find out what happens to Thomas ‘Tommo’ Peaceful, Charles Peaceful, Big Joe, and Molly. The ending is quite dark, but this was nonetheless a great read.
I also love this book. This had once made me get crazy with the author’s book. đ It is quite sad at the end, but the story itself is AMAZING. I would recommend this book who like epic stories.
One of my favorite books, a really great beginning , but a extremely sad ending. This book uses the childhood of Tomas, Charles and Molly to reflect the sad ending of the story. Anyways, it is a REALLY great book, everyone should read it~
Book review- Private peaceful
The book private peaceful is a very famous book from author Michael Morpurgo. Basically the book narrates a story of two boys from England; they both possess the same last name- Peaceful. Their life is very tough, but they overcome incidents and accept what they are encountering. Mrs. Peaceful as the âgirderâ of the home never fears negative incidents that have been consistently striking this home. Superficially the book depicts this boy- Thomas Peacefulâs life as a personal narrative, the mood seems flat and plain, but actually under the calm mood, through this view of plain and sincere of Thomas it actually ironize this sick society, reflecting to us is our own fatuity. In this world, everything was planned so perfectly, but now remaining is only an empty present box. Wrapped so perfectly with our fatuity but has nothing inside it except for a flawless lie. That is wrapped so âperfectlyâ, all of us are just slaves of this âbeautifulâ âboxâ. Covering by these âso calledâ clothing. Through the eyes of Thomas we see this indestructible will the peaceful family possess, and also this sick society, that is wrapped so âbeautifullyâ.
The story is told like a memoir. The main character in the book(written in Thomas peacefulâs perspective) was telling another story. The book is really delicately structured. In the time of one night, the main character âdepictsâ all the events that happened to him. All the chapters in the story possess a number that is a time. Like chapter one- â5 past tenâ, as the story continues every chapter begins with the emotions of the main character, and you can see how the characterâs emotion changes throughout the whole story, as the story he was telling changes and the relations between them. So basically following is a brief summarization of the plot of the book: Thomas was son of James peaceful who was working for the colonel as the lumberjack; he had two brothers- Charlie and Big Joe. One accident killed James; Thomas was with his dad when the incident happened. He couldnât forget the incident because he thinks it was his action that caused his dad to die. As he grows older, good things and bad things occurred. Just after Thomasâs dad pasted away colonel wouldnât let them stay in the house theyâve provided, for a woman a mother of three boys, if that occurred. How would this home still survive, how Mrs. Peaceful as the girder of the home ever to hold up this home, but no matter how difficult the incident was they could always get through. Joe is Thomasâs oldest brother, he was told to have meningitis by those so called âdoctorsâ. They said that even if he survives there will be a permanent damage to his brain. Joe survived, he just sees things from a different perspective, thatâs all. But one incident changed the entire home. Charlie and Thomas join the military. And arrive the front line, but only one came back. Charlie is executed on the military court. His brother, his best friendâŚâŚ
The flow of the story wasnât extremely intense, but under it is a synthetic of a heap of emotions, feelings. For my personal opinion I think the book is great, and also educational. We arenât in a war era today. By reading this book we can learn to treasure our life today, even in that tough condition no one in the peaceful family stepped away. This is really worth learning, so I would recommend this book to other people. Also personally I learned a lot throughout the story, comparing to the peaceful family I live in a peaceful era, but they have been enduring immense pressure no matter on which aspect, but still no one among the family has ever gave up, always an optimism attitude. We, today possessing such good life so it is really important to learn treasure it. Many of the virtues of the characters in this story are really worth studying, so for my personal opinion I think it is a great book and certainly I would recommend it to others
Private Peaceful is a story of a young boy’s growth. It takes place in a peaceful and happy town. Inside the town, there are people like Big Joe who never grow up, people like Charlie who is very responsible and caring, people like mom who is very strong…But also, people that are very vicious can also be found, for example the colonel. It sets up similar to a fairy tale, if there was no war.
The war that happens in the middle of the book changed the life people live. It was the World War I, the war between Britain, France, Belgium and Germany. The war spread almost everywhere, not even this little peaceful town. Charlie must join the army, but he was deprecating about it. He thought that the German did not have anything against him, why should he kill them. Tommy, our main character, once lived under the wing of Charlie, wanted to prove he was not a coward, joined the army with Charlie. In the army, Charlie was behaving in a justice manner but that displeased sergeant Harry, which finally caused him death. Charlie was always helping Tommy. When Tommy was injured, Charlie did not go with the others, but stayed with Tommy to take care of him. This really riled the Sergeant. He reported this to the law house, of Charlie did not want to fight for the army. Since the judge found no one that can prove for Charlie, made a decision of execution. That day, Tommy really grown up.
Wars, are not just the scenes that appeared in movies, it is much more than that. In TV shows, the soldiers are filled with patriotic feelings, but in real, they don’t. This books described a real war, which made people feel sorrow and grief. After each battle, either you die, or you survive. No one can predict what will happen on you when you are in war. If one of the million bullets hits you, you die. People don’t sympathize the enemy, he just kills, whoever wanted to kill him. People became monsters, that only know how to kill. That is the authentic war.
This book did not just show us the darkness of war, but it showed us the warmness in wars, which shed down reader’s tears. “Oranges and Lemons, Says the Bell of Saint Clement…” It is a song that Tommy, Big Joe and Charlie sang all over this book, it represents warmth and hope. When Charlie was executed, the last words he sang was this.
We live now in peace, and we are eudaemonic. Therefore, we need to know how to treasure this happiness. It is a great book and everyone should read it.
In the Private Peaceful, it talks about the growth of a young boy named Tommo. Tommo had a miserable childhood; his father died because of him and his eldest brother is an abnormal person. As he grew up he noticed that he loves Molly, a girl who grew up with Tommo and the elder brother Charlie, but Molly fell in love with Charlie and they got married. Afterward the war took Charlie and Tommo away from their family. And how Tommo became a grown man from the moment his brother died.
I like this story because it is very educational; from this book I noticed how war could be so cruel that took peopleâs life within a second, and the value of peace. The way that the write divided the chapters by time was brilliant and unique.
