The book review——Abarat 1
Abarat is a story begins in the most boring place in the city: Chicken town. Our main character Candy Quackenbush lives in this town. Candy disliked where she lives, one day she went out the town and Candy met a new world——Abarat. When Candy realized she is a strange heroine, she knows. Abarat is a strange world and in Abarat everything could be possible.
When I finished this book, I want to read the second book of Abarat. The story likes “a blend of ALICE IN THE WONDERLAND”. In the story I really like the character Christopher Carrion (he is the bad character). Carrion is the lord of Midnight and he has double personality. The reason why I like him, because he is a strange person. When everyone is in danger, Carrion would laugh at them or tease at them. If everyone thinks something is common but for Carrion it is important. What I like is Carrion has different mind, his ideas are totally different than other people. Carrion has his own idea and he likes to sneer at the foolish people (the people who do not know how to think). In the story the Shapes (who work under Carrion) is fear for Carrion. When he speaks to Carrion, his teeth have begun to chatter. From Shapes’ action we can see how scare he is.
After the character I would like to talk about the setting in the story. The setting in the Abarat is interesting. In different time, the island would change. At the time of twelve o’clock, it is the most dreadful time in Abarat. At twelve o’ clock the name of the island called Ninnyhammer. There are tarrie-cats ( black cat who kill people) and demons around, also the time Carrion liked the most. In the Chapter 26 Candy meets the tarrie-cats, and she is so scare about it. The tarrie-cats almost eat her. But Candy is a lucky girl ( well, maybe she is the main character), the tarrie-cats did not catch her. Ninnyhammer is really dark, you only can hear the wind whistle. Everyone who lives in Abarat all know, never go outside when it is Ninnyhammer time.
Abarat this story actually has many moral inside. When Candy left her home Chicken town, her mind is “I don’t like my town, I don’t like my family”, but when she is in the journey of Abarat Candy miss her family. I think when you are stay with your parents you will not feel lonely or miss your family. But when you are being outside in a new place and there are bad things, unlucky things happen to you. The only thing you need is your family. You want your family with you and they would comfort you, but now they are not here with you, then you miss them. Just like the story, Candy is travel around in the Abarat, only herself ( Candy had friends, but some of them died or loss). She feel lonely, also Carrion wants to kill her, nobody would comfort her. The only thing Candy wants in Abarat is her family. Actually in Abarat 3 Candy might ( MIGHT!) back to her Chicken town and visit her family.
Also Abarat also have 1,2,3,4 (Abarat is a continue story). At last I wish everyone should read this book and write a review.
