Finished! It was definitely worth reading. I think the book had many relevant themes. And the creature is far more interesting in the book than in the films I’ve seen. Is there a faithful film adaptation? But I still wish Shelley had been more concise.

I think it was fascinating, especially The Creature’s story. It revealed that all he was not a heartless monster, and indeed more human than Victor. The Creature killed William because people spurned and hated him, then sought his creator out to promise to do no more wrong if he had a companion. Victor was still prejudiced against his creation due…[Read more]

In Frankenstein, do you think that Victor Frankenstein did the right thing when he killed the would-be female companion to the monster? Do you think that he was justified in his reasoning? What would you have done in such a situation? Do you think that all the murders the monster committed were justified, and hence the daemon was telling the…[Read more]

I don’t think the plot is as interesting as I expected, but the moral and background is interesting. The book created a picture of Frankenstein, and even another meaning behind monster. I don’t think there’s any “bad people” in the world, everyone was born good, even the monster. Things and people turned bad because of the bad influence from the others.

When I finished Frankenstein, I was a bit stunned at the ending. Do you think that Frankenstein’s Monster was justified in killing all those people? I mean, the whole story is kind of biased, as it is all told through Victor Frankenstein’s Eyes, which made him probably exaggerate the murders committed by his nemesis. Walton was also influenced by…[Read more]

I agree that the book is biased, because the author makes Frankenstein seem like a weak man with slight mental disabilities. Shelley shows that Frankenstein fears for his life (which is also a politer way of saying SELFISH), but overall, I don’t like him much. He speaks for himself and himself only, not appearing to care for the Monster’s…[Read more]

It is true, everyone would run away. But the portraying of Victor sort of disappointed me… Not because he was afraid for his own life, but because he kept everything bottled up inside…[Read more]-
I suppose the characters do seem unrealistic, but Frankenstein’s portrayal is different then the conventional ‘hero’ narrator.

I suppose that sort of was the point.

I’m behind the reading schedule but now I’m finally in the most interesting part, so far. The creature is regaling the story of the cottagers to Frankenstein. It’s fascinating because it explains a lot about the psyche and motivations of the monster. I enjoy seeing the world through his eyes, especially as he is trying to figure out the moods…[Read more]

I agree – this was my favorite part. I enjoyed the monster’s point of view more than Victor’s. Perhaps in addition to super physical abilities, the monster’s brain has a bigger capacity for learning? To me, it’s a little too convenient to the story that he picked up language so easily and could therefor relate his story to Victor.
