Story summery:
There is this boy with a problem of speaking. He is very smart thou. And as he gets this new job as a paperboy because a friend of his went to a farm and needs substitute, he had quiet a bit of an interesting story.
I really liked this story, especially how it is from the point of view of the boy. Also, him not using comma and don’t quote the quotes are interesting, a new style of a story
Wonderful, thought-provoking book. The book pretty much focuses on a 11 year old boy, in the late 1950′s, Vincent Vollmer the Third, who has a problem with stuttering-he couldn’t even say his own name. Because of this, whenever he speaks, most strangers assume that he is insulting him, so he avoids speaking to people, except for Mam, one of his closest friends, his parents, and ‘Rat’ (who is his closest friend). One day, while Vincent was pitching in baseball the ball he threw hurt Rat, and so Vincent agreed to take care of Rat’s paper route for him, as Rat was going back for a while to his cousin’s.
And so the story of ‘Paperboy’ begins.
When Vollmer goes to pick up the papers for distributing them, he now has to speak. For most of the time, people left the money out for him, but once or twice in a while, he is forced to go and speak to the ones that forgot to pay for the money. In this way he meets Mr Spiro, an ex-Merchant Marine, who is fairly knowledgeable. When Mr Spiro asks Vollmer to say his name, ‘it was like getting [Vincent] to recite the Gettysburg Address’ and Vincent faints due to suffocation. He later continues, and after finishing the route, he has to get his yellow handed knife whetted.
He goes to Ara T, a shady character, who is pretty good at whetting. Vincent payed him enough money, but when he came back, Ara T asked him to speak out his (Vollmer’s) name, which Vincent knew was impossible for him to say. Giving up, he returned back to giving out paper.
The rest of the book focuses on Vollmer’s experiences as he goes around the neighbourhood, distributing newspapers, and how society treated Mam (who was a coloured person), and how Vollmer attempted to get back his knife from Ara T. This book is quite philosophical to some extent, and once you start reading, it will be hard for you to stop. Vawter’s words probably will make you feel as if you were the main character.
The book paper boy, displays how Vollmer the 3rd, known as little man gets help from mam, a very nice maid, and then, a blend topping off with the truth of a unreliable juckyard man. As Vollmer the thirds best friend, Rat (called rat due to his stuttering) takes a break, Vollmer knows he has problems to face: Speaking read as Vollmer stutters through this book and gets his pocket knife. Facing the route, he ends up in converstions, and talks from a retired sales marine. The author, Vince Vawter had a career of being a Paperboy for 40 years, as it says on the back cover. And then, a drunk woman who barks at Vollmer the third threw the newspaper the first time. Hence, Big sack, a old lawn man. I would recommend this book for readers who want to improve their English at a slow pace, because of its easy level of vocabulary, and touching plot.
Paperboy I read this book these days. It is about a boy who is always stuttering when he is talking. In the summer, he help his friend ‘Rat’ to throw the paper route. This unforgettable thing give him some unforgettable experience. Someone he knows because of the paper route throwing changed him. Mr.Spiro, Mrs.Worthington, Ara T, and he also get to know a new friend, who is a deaf mute, the ‘TV boy’.
In this book I like Mam the best. Mam is the boy’s maid, she takes care of him. The boy loves her very much, see her as the family. I think Mam is not the kind of ‘interesting’ person, she is even a bit pedantic, she is superstitious. But she just LOVE the boy. She can spend her whole life to protect the boy. He is her center.
paper boy is a a awesome book is about a boy who always stutter.
the funny part of this book is: when the boy deliver news paper when he said pitch the lady thought that he said the B word that part is soon funny.

Dav, Pilkey a great painting in the paperboy. there were very nice pictures. since the story was written by a few sentence every page, it really gave children more space to image on the story. alhough it’s a simple story, it taught our children the most. in the story, Dav descripted what did a paperboy do in his job. and how hard that his work was. as a paperboy, he had to get up early in the morning and delievered his newpaper before anyone got up. I really like to read this book and this book shows us what happened of a paperboy.
